Artist Bio

Ximena Montez is a fine art photographer living in Northern New Mexico. Ximena draws upon her Spanish and Native American heritage for her inspiration. She has had a love of photography since she was in middle school. 


Ximena holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of New Mexico and a teaching certificate in special education with several endorsements. She has been teaching for over 20 years. Currently, she is a MA candidate at the Academy of Art, in San Francisco California. 


Her work is heavily influenced by her love of the land, her heritage, and a deep connection to the people and culture of New Mexico. Through the use of lyrical documentary, documentary, and fine art, Ximena explores personal themes. Although her work is very intimate, the themes addressed can be found in many cultures.
